Pull Up the Roots
The exhibition brings together the works of three Ukrainian artists united by a shared
experience shaped over the past several years, while at the same time separated by
distance from the place where this experience was formed.

The project is based on the interplay of the artistic practices of three Ukrainian artists
who share a common personal, political, historical, and social background, while
engaging with and interpreting contemporary Ukrainian narratives in different ways.
The exhibition connects together artists who examine memory, identity, and trauma
through photography, painting, sculpture, and installation.

The exhibition will be on view from 16 October to 1 November 2026 at Konsthallen
ABC, Jämtlandsgatan 161, Vällingby, Stockholm, Sweden.

Reflections on the joint exhibition arose from an exploration of subtle aspects of
perception influenced by proximity to a world undergoing incredibly rapid, being
shaped by irreversible changes, and marked by the pain of loss and destruction.
How interdependence materializes and which visual markers each participant uses
under this influence. How distance transforms memory and reshapes identity.
The works of the presented artists reveal the dynamics unfolding within Ukrainian
society and the impact of social and physical distance on artistic practice. The
exhibition addresses how physical distance influences emotional evaluation, the
analysis of perception, and reflections on what is happening in Ukraine, through the
prism of differences in experience and three different models of experiencing events.

The exhibition features three artists: Oleksandra Voronina, Vitalii Kravets, and Serhii
Pohrebitskyi. All three were born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and studied at the National
Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture.

Curated by Oleksandra Voronina, who also takes part in the exhibition as an artist,
investigates the transformation of exhibition-space compositio from the perspective
and through the experience of a visual artist, as well as the process of forming
professional artistic relationships between artists when one of them simultaneously
occupies two different hierarchical positions.
